GAME NOTES -- SAMFORD at MISSISSIPPI STATE (PDF)
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Samford softball team hits the road for midweek play as they face their toughest test of the season to date as they play at No. 19 Mississippi State on Tuesday night. First pitch is scheduled for 4 p.m. as Samford enters the game on a five-game winning streak and a 6-2 record while Miss State sits at 9-1 on the season.
The Samford Bulldogs are coming off their first home games of the season as they hosted a three-team tournament where they went 4-0 with two wins a piece over UAB and Indiana State. The weekend included walkoff wins in the opener against UAB and the finale against the Sycamores.Â
Samford has the second-best offense in the Southern Conference as they are averaging 7.1 runs per game. Samford has four qualified hitters batting over .400, led by
Katie Campbell who is carrying a 1.264 OPS.
Sarah Squillace and
Olivia Shaw led the team with eight runs scored each so far this season.
Linsey Hargis is hitting .400 and has a team-high .500 on-base percentage.
Jordyn Partain has a 3-1 record after making five appearances and carries a 2.75 earned run average. Freshman
Olivia Treece made her first start of the season against Indiana State this weekend and threw a complete game where she earned the win after allowing just one unearned run.Â
Samford and Mississippi State are meeting for the 17th time in series history with Miss State holding a 14-2 series lead. Samford defeated Miss State 3-2 last season on a walk-off
Olivia Shaw double but has never won in Starkville. Mississippi State is off to a 9-1 start with multiple top-25 wins and their lone defeat coming against #7 Duke.Â
