Women’s Hoops To Host League-Leading UNC Greensboro Thursday Evening

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. –
The Samford women's basketball team will return home to play host to the league-leading UNC Greensboro Spartans Thursday evening at 6 p.m. in the Pete Hanna Center.
 
Samford and UNC Greensboro have played 36 previous times, with Samford holding a 27-9 series lead. Earlier this season, the teams met in Greensboro with UNCG winning, 78-66.
 
The Samford women's basketball team is currently 12-16 overall and 7-5 in Southern Conference play after a 73-62 win at Furman last Saturday.
 
Samford freshman Claire Johnson currently leads the team in scoring, averaging 11.6 points per game. She scored a career-high 30 points at UNC Greensboro. Over the last seven games, she has averaged 19.7 points per game.
 
Redshirt junior Emily Bowman is currently averaging 10.5 points and a team-high 7.8 rebounds per game. Sophomore guard Kennedy Langham has had 19 double-digit scoring games so far this season, and is second on the team, averaging 11.4 points per game. Graduate forward Annie Ramil is currently averaging 6.8 points and 5.9 rebounds per game.
 
Sadie Stetson is currently averaging 6.9 points per game so far this season. She is currently tied for second in the Southern Conference in three-pointers made per game, averaging 1.9 per contest. Aubrey Blankenship and Alonya Waldon have stepped into the starting lineup recently. Waldon is averaging 6.5 points and Blankenship is averaging 4.9 points per contest.
 
The UNC Greensboro Spartans enter Thursday night's game with a record of 20-6 overall and 11-1 in Southern Conference play. The Spartans, who are coming off a 57-53 win over Western Carolina, have already earned the SoCon regular-season title.
 
UNC Greensboro has been led so far this season by Jayde Gamble, averaging 12.0 points and a team-high 2.8 assists per game. Nya Smith is currently scoring 11.4 points per game for the Spartans. Khalis Cain is the team leader in rebounding, grabbing 8.5 boards per contest.
