Samford Baseball To Host Kennesaw State In Four-Game Series This Weekend

BIRMINGHAM, Ala.
 – The Samford University baseball team will return home to host a four-game series with Kennesaw State, playing a game Friday at 4 p.m., a doubleheader Saturday at 1 p.m. and a single game Sunday at 1 p.m.
 
Samford and Kennesaw State have met 21 previous times, with KSU holding an 11-10 series lead. The teams last met in 2019 in a series at Joe Lee Griffin Field. In that series, Samford won all three games by scores of 6-5, 3-2 and 6-3.
 
Samford is scheduled to start left-handed pitcher Miller Riggins in game one, right-handed pitcher Cameron Keshock in game two, right-hander Noah Berry in game three and right-hander Josh Leerssen in the final game of the series on Sunday. KSU has listed right-handed pitcher Baden Osbolt as its starter for game one, left-hander Ryan Gold for game three and right-hander Nolan Silver for game four. KSU has not named a starter for game two of the series.
 
Samford enters the weekend with a record of 3-5. The Bulldogs played a three-game series at fourth-ranked Tennessee last weekend, falling to the Vols by scores of 5-1, 7-3 and 11-1 in seven innings. In the midweek, the Bulldogs played a fourth-straight game against an SEC opponent, falling by a score of 15-8 at Auburn Tuesday evening.
 
Samford has been led at the plate so far this season by Cade Carr, batting .417 (10-for-24) with two doubles, a home run and 14 RBI. Michael Gupton is hitting .308 with two doubles and a triple.  Parker McDonald is hitting .294 with a home run and four RBI. Freshman Jake Souders currently ranks second on the team in RBI with seven.
 
Kennesaw State comes into the game with a mark of 3-6. The Owls won two-of-three games against Columbia last weekend and dropped a midweek game at Georgia State, 14-4.
 
The Owls have been led offensively by Chris Cole, batting .361 with a double, a triple and five RBI. Nate Anderson is hitting .294 with a triple, three home runs and eight RBI.
