GAME NOTES--SAMFORD VS. WESTERN CAROLINA (PDF)
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Samford women's basketball team will wrap up its regular season by playing host to the Western Carolina Catamounts Saturday at 2 p.m. in the Pete Hanna Center.
Samford and Western Carolina have played 36 previous times, with Samford owning a 32-4 series lead. The teams met earlier this season, with Samford winning, 90-86 in double overtime in Cullowhee, N.C.
The Samford women's basketball team is currently 12-17 overall and 7-6 in Southern Conference play after a 71-59 loss to league-leading UNC Greensboro on Thursday.
Samford freshman Claire Johnson leads the team in scoring, averaging 11.6 points per game. Over the last eight games, she has averaged 18.6 points per game. She is tied for third in the SoCon in three-pointers made per game at 1.9.
Samford redshirt junior Emily Bowman is currently averaging 10.3 points and a team-high 7.7 rebounds per game. Kennedy Langham has had 19 double-digit scoring games so far this season, and is second on the team, averaging 11.3 points per game.
Sadie Stetson is currently averaging 7.0 points per game so far this season. She is currently tied for third in the Southern Conference in three-pointers made per game, averaging 1.9 per contest. Aubrey Blankenship and Alonya Waldon have stepped into the starting lineup recently. Waldon is averaging 6.3 points and Blankenship is averaging 5.2 points per contest.
The Western Carolina Catamounts enter Saturday's game with a record of 12-16 overall and 2-11 in Southern Conference play. The team is coming off a 51-49 loss at Mercer Thursday evening.
Western Carolina has been led so far this season by A.C. Carter, averaging 14.8 points and 6.6 rebounds per game. Tyja Beans is averaging 12.5 points and a team-high 8.1 rebounds per game.
