GAME NOTES--SAMFORD VS. MERCER (PDF)
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Samford women's basketball team will return home to take on the Mercer Bears Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m. (CT) at the Pete Hanna Center.
Samford and Mercer have met 36 previous times, with Mercer holding a 27-9 series lead. The teams met earlier this season in Macon, Ga., with the Bears picking up a 56-53 win over the Bulldogs.
The Samford women's basketball team is currently 7-16 overall and 2-5 in Southern Conference play after a 78-66 loss at UNC Greensboro last Saturday.
Samford redshirt junior
Emily Bowman is leading the team in scoring (11.2 ppg.), rebounding (8.7 rpg.) and blocked shots (2.1). Sophomore guard
Kennedy Langham has had 15 double-digit scoring games so far this season and is averaging 11.0 points per game.
Samford freshman
Claire Johnson is third on the team in scoring, averaging 10.5 points per game. She scored a career-high 30 points at UNC Greensboro, and she is currently second in the Southern Conference in three-point percentage.
Graduate forward
Annie Ramil is currently averaging 7.4 points and 6.4 rebounds per game.
Sadie Stetson is currently averaging 7.5 points per game so far this season.
Aubrey Blankenship and
Alonya Waldon have stepped into the starting lineup recently, Waldon is averaging 6.3 points and Blankenship is averaging 5.3 points per contest.
The Mercer Bears enter Saturday afternoon's game with a record of 7-15 overall and 2-5 in Southern Conference play. The Bears last played on Saturday, earning a 71-66 win over Western Carolina.
Mercer has been led so far this season by Ariana Bennett, averaging 10.7 points per game. Nahawa Diarra is averaging 8.8 points per game for the Bears. Ashlee Locke is scoring 8.0 points and grabbing a team-high 6.5 rebounds per game so far this season.
