GAME NOTES--SAMFORD VS. NORTH ALABAMA (PDF)
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Samford University baseball team will return home to play host to the North Alabama Lions Tuesday at 3 p.m. at Joe Lee Griffin Field.
Samford is scheduled to start right-handed pitcher
Brooks Rice in Tuesday afternoon's contest. Rice has a record of 0-1 and a 12.91 ERA. North Alabama has listed left-handed pitcher Reese Young as its starting pitcher for Tuesday's game. Young has a record of 0-1 and an ERA of 8.68.
Samford and North Alabama have met 17 previous times, with North Alabama holding a 12-5 series lead. Last season the teams played twice, with Samford winning both contests. The Bulldogs earned a 19-10 win in Florence, and a 12-3 win in Birmingham.
Samford enters the game with a record of 8-8. The Bulldogs won two-of-three games at UT Martin last weekend. Samford won the first game, 15-4 in eight innings and the second game, 11-1 in eight innings, before falling in game three, 10-6 on a walk-off grand slam.
Cade Carr is currently leading Samford in hitting with a .382 (21-for-55) average with five doubles, two home runs and a team-high 25 RBI. His 25 RBI are tied for second in the Southern Conference.
Jeffrey Ince is hitting .368 (21-for-57) with four doubles, two home runs and 15 RBI.
Michael Gupton has a .357 (20-for-56) with four doubles, a triple, two homers and seven RBI.
Jackson Harris is hitting .320 (16-for-50) with two doubles and 12 RBI.
Jake Souders is tied for the SoCon lead in doubles with eight.
North Alabama enters the week with a record of 3-11. Last weekend, the Lions were swept in a three-game series at second-ranked LSU.
North Alabama has been led at the plate so far this season by Matthew Delgado, hitting .333 (15-for-45) with a double, a home run and seven RBI. Alex Wilson has an average of .293 (12-for-41) with a double and five RBI.
