GREENVILLE, S.C. – The Samford men's tennis team earned a earned a hard-fought, 4-3 Southern Conference victory over the Furman Paladins Tuesday afternoon at the Mickel Tennis Center.
 
With the win, Samford improved its season record to 12-4 overall and 3-0 in Southern Conference play. Furman fell to 5-8 overall and 2-1 in league play.
 
Samford swept the three doubles matches to take an early 1-0 lead. At No. 1 doubles, Darcy Nicholls and J.B. Pickard defeated Matt Kandel and Elijah Poritzky, 6-3. On the No. 2 doubles court, Santiago Arredondo and Sandeep Mohandoss earned a 6-3 win over Cole Burnam and Connor Laymon. At No. 3 doubles, Sebastian Harrison and Vitorio Sardinha defeated Nicolas Dispas and Nico Snyder, 6-1.
 
In singles, Samford took a 2-0 lead when Hayden Menon defeated Theophile Joly, 7-6 (7-4), 6-1, on the No. 3 court. Samford made it 3-0 when Mohandoss defeated 119^th-ranked Poritzky, 6-3, 6-4, at the No. 1 position. Furman earned its first point of the match to cut the lead to 3-1 when Walker Allen defeated Arredondo, 6-3, 6-3, on the No. 6 court.
 
Furman drew to within 3-2 when Kandel defeated Nicholls, 7-6 (7-1), 3-6, 6-2, on the No. 2 court. The Paladins tied the match at 3-3 when John Rado defeated Pickard, 7-6 (7-5),. 6-4, on the No. 4 court. The match was decided on the No. 5 court where Harrison defeated Dispas, 6-4, 7-5, to give Samford the 4-3 win.
 
Next up, Samford will play at College of Charleston on Thursday, March 13. The match is set for a 1:30 p.m. (CT) start from Charleston, S.C.
