Samford Baseball To Host Evansville In Weekend Series

GAME NOTES--SAMFORD VS. EVANSVILLE (PDF)

BIRMINGHAM, Ala.
 – The Samford University baseball team will play host to Evansville in a three-game series this weekend. The teams will play a doubleheader Friday at 1 p.m. and a single game Sunday at 1 p.m. at Joe Lee Griffin Field.

The teams have met just three previous times, with Samford owning a 2-1 series lead. The only other meetings came in a series in 2010 at Joe Lee Griffin Field.
 
Samford is scheduled to start left-handed pitcher Miller Riggins in game one, right-handed pitcher Cameron Keshock in game two and right-hander Josh Leerssen in game three. Evansville has listed right-handed pitcher Owen Byberg as its starter for game one on Friday. They have not listed a starter for game two on Friday. Sunday's starter will be left-hander Kevin Reed.
 
Samford enters the game with a record of 9-8. The Bulldogs won two-of-three games at UT Martin last weekend. Samford then hosted a midweek game against North Alabama Tuesday night, earning a 10-3 win over the Lions.
 
Cade Carr is currently leading Samford in hitting with a .397 (23-for-58) average with five doubles, two home runs and a team-high 26 RBI. His 26 RBI rank fourth in the SoCon. Jeffrey Ince is hitting .361 (22-for-61) with four doubles, two home runs and 15 RBI. Michael Gupton has a .357 (20-for-56) average with four doubles, a triple, two homers and seven RBI. Jackson Harris is hitting .321 (17-for-53) with two doubles and 12 RBI. Jake Souders is tied for third in the SoCon in doubles with eight.
 
Evansville enters the weekend with a record of 5-11. The Purple Aces won two-of-three games at Central Arkansas over the weekend. Evansville then dropped a pair of midweek games to Southeast Missouri and SIU Edwardsville.
 
Evansville has been led at the plate so far this season by Harrison Taubert, batting .390 (23-of-59) with seven doubles, four home runs and 20 RBI.
