Bulldogs To Host Jacksonville State Tuesday Evening

BIRMINGHAM, Ala.
 – The Samford University baseball team will play host to in-state rival Jacksonville State Tuesday evening at 6 p.m. at Joe Lee Griffin Field.
 
Samford and Jacksonville State will be meeting for the 92nd time, with JSU holding a 55-36 series lead. The teams met earlier this season in Jacksonville, with the Gamecocks taking a 12-6 win on Feb. 18.
 
Samford enters the game with a record of 12-8. The Bulldogs swept three games from Evansville over the weekend. Samford defeated Evansville by scores of 10-4, 6-2 and 13-1.
 
Samford is scheduled to start right-handed pitcher Brooks Rice on the mound Tuesday evening. Rice has appeared in five games so far this season, starting four contests. He has a record of 0-1 and an ERA of 11.17. Jacksonville State will start right-handed pitcher James Wilson. So far this season, Wilson has a 1-0 record and an ERA of 1.32.
 
Cade Carr is currently leading Samford in hitting with a .418 (28-for-67) average with seven doubles, four home runs and a team-high 32 RBI. His 32 RBI are tied for second in the SoCon. Jeffrey Ince is hitting .382 (26-for-68) with five doubles, two home runs and 17 RBI. Jackson Harris is hitting .333 (21-for-63) with four doubles and 14 RBI. Parker McDonald has a .321 (17-for-53) average with four doubles, a triple, three home runs and 14 RBI. Michael Gupton is hitting .318 (21-of-66), while Jake Souders is hitting .312 (24-for-77) with nine doubles, two homers and 17 RBI. His nine doubles are tied for first in the SoCon.

Jacksonville State enters the game with a record of 13-7. The Gamecocks won two-of-three games over Southeast Missouri over the weekend. JSU won the first game, 11-1 and the third game, 5-4 in 10 innings, and dropped the second contest, 3-1.
 
Jacksonville State has been led at the plate so far this season by Colton Hegwood, batting .397 (27-of-68) with seven doubles, two triples and 13 RBI. Cooper Blauser is hitting .297 (19-of-64) with seven doubles, three triples, one home run and 18 RBI.
