GAME NOTES--SAMFORD AT ETSU (PDF)
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Samford University baseball team will open Southern Conference play with a three-game series at ETSU this weekend. The teams are scheduled to play games on Friday at 4 p.m. (CT), Saturday at 1 p.m. (CT) and Sunday at 12 p.m. (CT).
Samford and ETSU have met 34 previous times, with Samford owning an 18-16 series lead. Last season, Samford won two-of-three games from ETSU in a series at Joe Lee Griffin Field. The Bulldogs won the first two games, both by scores of 9-6 and fell in game three, 13-9.
Samford is scheduled to start left-handed pitcher
Miller Riggins on Friday and right-handed pitcher
Cameron Keshock on Saturday. The Bulldogs have not named a starter for Sunday's game yet. ETSU has listed right-handed pitcher Carter Fink, right-hander Jace Hyde and right-hander Michael Harps as its starting rotation.
Samford enters the weekend with a record of 12-9. The Bulldogs swept three games from Evansville last weekend, and dropped a 6-4, 10-inning game to Jax State Tuesday.
Cade Carr is currently leading Samford in hitting with a .403 (29-for-72) average with seven doubles, four home runs and a team-high 32 RBI. His 32 RBI are tied for second in the SoCon.
Jeffrey Ince is hitting .375 (27-for-72) with five doubles, two home runs and 17 RBI.
Jackson Harris is hitting .333 (22-for-66) with four doubles and 14 RBI.
Jake Souders is hitting .317 (26-for-82) with nine doubles, two homers and 18 RBI. His nine doubles are tied for second in the SoCon.
ETSU enters the series with a record of 16-4. The Bucs earned a 7-6 win in 10 innings over No. 1-ranked Tennessee Tuesday night. ETSU swept a series with Longwood last weekend.
ETSU has been led at the plate so far this season by Grant Gallagher, hitting .365 (23-for-63) with two doubles, 12 home runs and 20 RBI. Cody Miller is hitting .355 (27-for-76) with six doubles, six home runs and 24 RBI.
