HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. – The Samford women's golf team finished second in the Low Country Intercollegiate, hosted by Wofford, at Moss Creek Golf Club Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
Samford had a pair of players to finish in the top three in the 73-player field. Sophomores
Grace Engel (72-75-79) and
Gabi Nicastro (75-80-71) both tied for third with identical three-round scores of 226.
"This was a total team effort in tough and windy conditions," Samford head coach
Joe Davidson said. "Grace and Gabi both finishing third was strong. I'm just proud of everyone for hanging in there."
As a team, Samford finished with a three-round total of 935 (312-316-307) to finish second in the 13-team field. High Point won the event with a final score of 913 (310-306-297).
Following Engel and Nicastro for Samford,
Anika Richards placed 16
th with a three-round total of 236 (80-79-77).
Morgan Franklin tied for 41
st at 247 (85-82-80), while
Christian Williams placed 64
th at 262 (92-89-81).
Next up, Samford will compete in the ULM Invitational, Mar. 31-Apr. 1 in Monroe, La.
