GAME NOTES--SAMFORD VS. WOFFORD (PDF)

ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The fifth-seeded Samford women's basketball team will open play in the Southern Conference Tournament by taking on the fourth-seeded Wofford Terriers in the quarterfinal round Thursday at 4:45 p.m. (CT) at Harrah's Cherokee Center in Asheville, N.C.
 
The winner of the Samford-Wofford game will take on the UNC Greensboro-Western Carolina game winner in the semifinal round on Friday at 10 a.m. (CT). The championship game of the tournament is scheduled for Sunday at 11 a.m. (CT).
 
Samford and Wofford have met 40 previous times, with Samford holding a 27-13 series lead. The teams split the two meetings this season, with each team winning on the road. Wofford won, 84-49 in Birmingham and Samford earned a 62-54 win in Spartanburg. This is the fourth time Samford and Wofford have met in the Southern Conference Tournament, with Samford posting a 2-1 record in the previous three meetings.
 
The Samford women's basketball team is currently 12-18 overall and 7-7 in Southern Conference play after a 76-69 loss to Western Carolina last Saturday.

Samford freshman Claire Johnson leads the team in scoring, averaging 11.9 points per game. Over the last nine games, she has averaged 18.8 points per game. She is currently second in the SoCon in three-pointers made per game at 2.0.
 
Sophomore Kennedy Langham has had 19 double-digit scoring games so far this season, and is second on the team, averaging 11.2 points per game. Samford redshirt junior Emily Bowman is currently averaging 10.3 points and a team-high 7.5 rebounds per game.
 
Graduate student Sadie Stetson is currently averaging 7.0 points per game so far this season. She is currently tied for fourth in the Southern Conference in three-pointers made per game, averaging 1.9 per contest. Redshirt freshman Aubrey Blankenship and sophomore Alonya Waldon have stepped into the starting lineup recently. Waldon is averaging 6.2 points and Blankenship is averaging 5.1 points per contest.
 
Samford has an all-time record of 23-25 in postseason games. The Bulldogs posted a 2-3 record in the TAAC/Atlantic Sun Tournament, and the team was 3-4 in the Ohio Valley Conference Tournament. Samford is 17-13 so far in the Southern Conference Tournament. Samford has a record of 1-3 in WNIT games and 0-2 in the NCAA Tournament.
 
The Wofford Terriers enter the Southern Conference Tournament with a record of 16-11 overall and 8-6 in Southern Conference play. The Terriers wrapped up their regular season with a 69-61 loss at Chattanooga last Saturday.
 
Wofford has been led this season by Evangelia Paulk, averaging 13.2 points and 8.5 rebounds per game.  Helen Matthews is averaging 11.1 points per game, while Molly Masingale scores 10.9 points per game for the Terriers.
