GAME NOTES--SAMFORD AT UT MARTIN (PDF)

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Samford University baseball team will travel to Martin, Tenn., to take on UT Martin in a series with games Friday at 3 p.m., Saturday at 3 p.m. and Sunday at 1 p.m.
 
Samford is scheduled to start right-handed left-handed pitcher Miller Riggins in game one, right-handed pitcher Cameron Keshock in game two and right-hander Josh Leerssen in game three. UT Martin has listed its starting pitchers as right-handers Jacob Sitton, Drake Bayles and Quincy Thornton.
 
Samford and UT Martin have met 38 previous times, with Samford holding a 29-9 series lead. The teams last met during the 2023 season, with Samford sweeping a three-game series at Joe Lee Griffin Field. The teams were co-members of the Ohio Valley Conference from 2004 to 2008.
 
Samford enters the series with a record of 6-7. The Bulldogs played a four-game series at home last weekend against Kennesaw State, with the teams splitting the series. Tuesday, Samford earned an 11-7 win at West Georgia.
 
Center fielder Michael Gupton leads Samford in batting average, hitting .364 (16-for-44) with three doubles, a triple, a home run and five RBI. Cade Carr is hitting .349 (15-for-43) with two doubles, two home runs and a team-high 17 RBI. Jeffrey Ince has a .319 (15-for-47) average with three doubles, two home runs and 11 RBI. Parker McDonald is currently hitting .313 (10-for-32) with a double, a triple, a home run and six RBI.

UT Martin enters the weekend with a mark of 5-6. Last weekend, the Skyhawks went 1-2 at a Middle Tennessee Tournament, defeating Old Dominion and falling to MTSU and St. Bonaventure. UT Martin won a midweek game at Alabama A&M, 11-0 in seven innings.
 
UT Martin has been led offensively by T.J. Grines, batting .415 (17-for-41) with three doubles, two triples, two home runs and eight RBI. Brody Capps leads the team in both home runs with four and in RBI with 14.
