GAME NOTES--SAMFORD VS. THE CITADEL (PDF)
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Samford University baseball team will play host to The Citadel in a three-game series this weekend at Joe Lee Griffin Field. The teams are set to play Friday at 6 p.m., Saturday at 2 p.m. and Sunday at 1 p.m.
Samford and The Citadel have met 42 previous times, with Samford holding a 30-12 series lead. Last season, the teams played a series in Charleston, S.C., with Samford sweeping the series by scores of 2-0, 15-2 and 12-4.
Samford enters the weekend with a record of 18-15 overall and 4-2 in SoCon play. Last weekend, Samford swept a three-game Southern Conference series at Wofford, winning the games by scores of 14-0, 19-5 and 6-2. This Tuesday, Samford earned a 10-7 win over West Georgia.
Samford is scheduled to start left-handed pitcher
Miller Riggins on Friday and right-hander
Cameron Keshock on Saturday. Samford has not named a starter for Sunday's game yet.
Cade Carr is currently leading Samford in hitting with a .359 (42-for-117) average with 10 doubles, five home runs and a team-high 40 RBI. His 40 RBI rank sixth in the Southern Conference.
Michael Gupton is hitting .336 (36-for-107) with six doubles, five home runs and 19 RBI.
Jeffrey Ince is hitting .328 (39-for-119) with 10 doubles, four home runs and 20 RBI.
Jackson Harris is hitting .325 (37-for-114) with eight doubles, one home run and 26 RBI.
Jake Souders is hitting .318 (42-for-132) with nine doubles, six home runs and 30 RBI.
The Citadel enters the series with a mark of 18-15 overall and 3-3 in Southern Conference play. The Citadel won two-of-three games at Western Michigan last weekend.
The Citadel is scheduled to start right-handed pitcher Andrew Stanley on Friday, left-handed pitcher George Derrick Floyd on Saturday and right-hander Chandler Anderson on Sunday.
The Citadel has been led so far this season by Travis Elliott, batting .281 (32-for-114) with five doubles, a triple and 21 RBI. Garrett Dill is hitting .275 (25-for-91) with three doubles, two home runs and 13 RBI.
