GAME NOTES -- (Samford at UNCG) PDF
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Samford softball team hits the road this weekend in Southern Conference play as they face off with UNCG for the three-game series. The Bulldogs currently sit atop the conference with an 8-1 record while the Spartans sit in second with a 7-2 mark. Overall, Samford has a 27-15 record while UNCG sits at 30-11 on the year.
The Bulldogs enter their weekend with the Spartans on a four-game winning streak. They were victorious in the midweek as they defeated West Georgia 7-5 and swept ETSU last weekend.
Joi Hubbard and
Katie Campbell exploded on Wednesday's win over the Wolves as they each had four hits. Campbell was a perfect 4-for-4 at the dish and had a season-high six RBIs.
Grier Bruce and
Jordyn Partain were reigning SoCon Players and Pitcher of the Week as Partain went 2-0, pitching 10 innings and allowing no earned runs. Bruce went 6-for-12 at the plate with three doubles, a triple, and a homer in action against the Buccaneers at home last weekend. The Dogs have won six straight league games, scoring over 12 runs per game over that stretch.
Sarah Squillace is hitting .538 in conference play this season as the Bulldogs have four batters hitting over .400.
UNCG and Samford are meeting for the 56th time with the Spartans leading the series 30-25. The Bulldogs swept the Spartans during the regular season but fell to them in the SoCon Tournament. UNCG is coming off a sweep of Furman last weekend while their coming matchup with the Dogs features the two highest-scoring teams in the league so far this season.
