GAME NOTES--SAMFORD AT WOFFORD (PDF)
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Samford University baseball team will travel to Spartanburg, S.C., for a SoCon series at Wofford this weekend. The teams are scheduled to play Friday at 4:30 p.m. (CT), Saturday at 1 p.m. (CT) and Sunday at 12 p.m. (CT).
Samford and Wofford have met 54 previous times, with Samford holding a 28-26 series lead. Wofford won two-of-three games in the regular season series. The teams also met three times in the SoCon Tournament, with Wofford winning two of those three meetings as well.
Samford enters the weekend with a record of 14-15 overall and 1-2 in SoCon play. Last weekend, Samford dropped two-of-three games to Creighton and then dropped a midweek game at No. 8 Alabama, 11-9.
Samford is scheduled to start left-handed pitcher
Miller Riggins on Friday and right-hander
Cameron Keshock on Saturday. Samford has not listed a starter for Sunday's series finale.
Cade Carr is currently leading Samford in hitting with a .370 (37-for-100) average with eight doubles, five home runs and a team-high 38 RBI. His 38 RBI rank fourth in the Southern Conference.
Jeffrey Ince is hitting .340 (35-for-103) with seven doubles, three home runs and 19 RBI.
Michael Gupton is hitting .319 (30-for-94) with six doubles, three home runs and 13 EBI.
Parker McDonald is hitting .307 (27-for-88) with five doubles, seven home runs and 23 RBI.
Wofford enters the weekend with a mark of 21-9 overall and 2-1 in SoCon play. The Terriers won two-of-three at The Citadel last weekend, and they earned a 5-2 midweek win over USC Upstate Tuesday night.
Wofford has listed right-handed pitcher Brandon Little as its starting pitcher for Friday's game. Right-hander Cullen Condon will start for the Terriers on Saturday, and Wofford has not named a starter for Sunday's contest yet.
Wofford has been led at the plate so far this season by James Layman, batting .398 (35-for-88) with seven doubles, one triple and 21 RBI. David Wiley is hitting .333 (36-for-108) with seven doubles, two home runs and a team-high 28 RBI.
