GAME NOTES -- ETSU at SAMFORD (PDF)
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Samford softball team returns to play on Friday as they start a three-game Southern Conference set by hosting ETSU. The Bulldogs face the Buccaneers on Friday at 1 p.m. and for two games on Saturday at 1 and 3 p.m. Samford enters the game with a 23-15 record overall and sits in first place in the SoCon with a 5-1 record.
The Bulldogs are coming off a Tuesday game at No. 24 Alabama where they fell 9-3. The Crimson Tide had two big innings while the Bulldogs bats struggled until the sixth inning as they mustered two hits against Alabama pitching.
Sara Bond started the game for the Dogs and fell to 5-3 on the season after the defeat.
After a sweep of Western Carolina a week ago, the Bulldogs sit in first place in the conference with a 5-1 record. The Dogs are coming off a weekend where they outscored Western Carolina 44-6. Samford had 42 hits in the series, including 12 home runs over the three-game sweep.
Samford and ETSU are meeting for the 32nd time with the Bulldogs leading the series 23-8. The Bulldogs won two of three against the Buccaneers last season in Johnson City. The Bucs are coming off a series against Furman where they dropped two of three against the Paladins.
