Baseball To Host West Georgia Tuesday Evening

GAME NOTES--SAMFORD VS. WEST GEORGIA (PDF)

BIRMINGHAM, Ala.
 – The Samford University baseball team will return home to play host to the West Georgia Wolves on Tuesday at 6 p.m. at Joe Lee Griffin Field.  
 
Samford and West Georgia have met 18 previous times, with the Wolves holding a 14-4 series lead. The teams met earlier this season, on March 4, with Samford earning an 11-7 win in Carrollton, Ga.

Samford is scheduled to start right-handed pitcher Brooks Rice on the mound in Tuesday night's game. Rice has a record of 0-3 and an ERA of 9.37. West Georgia has listed right-handed pitcher Maverick Torres as its starter. Torres has thrown just 2.1 innings and has a 0.00 ERA.
 
Samford enters the week with a record of 17-15 overall and 4-2 in SoCon play. This weekend, Samford swept a three-game Southern Conference series at Wofford, winning the games by scores of 14-0, 19-5 and 6-2. Last Tuesday, the Bulldogs dropped a close game to then eighth-ranked Alabama, 11-9.
 
Cade Carr is currently leading Samford in hitting with a .357 (40-for-112) average with nine doubles, five home runs and a team-high 40 RBI. His 40 RBI rank sixth in the Southern Conference. Jeffrey Ince is hitting .339 (39-for-115) with 10 doubles, four home runs and 20 RBI. Michael Gupton is hitting .330 (35-for-106) with six doubles, five home runs and 19 RBI. Jake Souders is hitting .315 (40-for-127) with nine doubles, five home runs and 28 RBI. Jackson Harris is hitting .312 (34-for-109) with eight doubles, one home run and 25 RBI. 
 
West Georgia comes into the game with a mark of 15-14 overall and 6-6 in the Atlantic Sun Conference. The Wolves won two-of-three games at North Florida over the weekend.
 
West Georgia has been led at the plate by Cooper Price, batting .358 (39-for-109) with five doubles, four triples and 10 RBI. Brady McDevitt is batting .337 (29-for-86) with four doubles, two home runs and 23 RBI. Carter Dierdorf leads the team in home runs with 10 and in RBI with 32.
