BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Samford softball team is back in action as they take a break from Southern Conference play to face West Georgia on the road on Wednesday night. The Bulldogs enter the game with a 26-15 record while the Wolves enter with a 9-27 record on the season.
The Bulldogs and the Wolves meet for the fourth time in series history with Samford holding a 3-0 lead in the meetings. The two sides met earlier this season with the Dogs taking the game 10-2 and winning in the fifth inning by run rule.
Karley Fuller drew the start and went three innings, allowing just two hits and one run before
Jordyn Partain entered in the fourth inning and earned the win in relief. The Bulldogs were down 2-1 before scoring nine runs in the fifth inning to pull away for the victory.
Samford has won six of their last seven games, with the lone defeat coming at No. 24 Alabama in a midweek clash. Outside of that, the Dogs have swept Western Carolina on the road and ETSU at home in SoCon play and sit atop the league with an 8-1 record.
Grier Bruce and
Jordyn Partain are coming off conference player and pitcher of the week honors for their performances against the Buccaneers. The Bulldog infielder went 6-for-12 at the plate with three doubles, a triple, and a home run. The Georgia native drove in four runs while also scoring four runs. The Samford ace went 2-0 while pitching 10 innings, striking out seven, and allowing zero earned runs. She moved her season record to 12-8 and is second in the league in shutouts (4) and appearances (24).
The Dogs have the second-best offense in the SoCon and have closed the gap to UNCG who leads the league in runs scored.
Olivia Shaw continues to power the lineup, hitting .390 with an OPS of 1.169 which is fourth-best in the league. The Bulldogs lineup has five players hitting over .325 and had
Joi Hubbard break the school's single-season steals record with 24.
