GAME NOTES--SAMFORD VS. TROY (PDF)

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Samford University baseball team will play host to the 19th-ranked Troy Trojans Wednesday evening at 6 p.m. at Joe Lee Griffin Field. The game can be seen live on ESPN+.
 
Samford and Troy have met 73 previous times, with Troy owning a 47-26 series lead. The teams last met in 2024 in Birmingham, with Troy taking a 10-8 win.   
  
Samford is scheduled to start right-handed pitcher Heath Clevenger on the mound Wednesday evening. Clevenger has a record of 1-1 and an ERA of 9.00. Troy has not named a starter for Wednesday's evening's game yet.
 
Samford enters the week with a record of 24-22 overall and 9-6 in SoCon play. Last weekend, the Bulldogs split two games with Miami of Ohio. Last Tuesday, the Bulldogs fell to 10th-ranked Auburn, 3-0 at the Hoover Metropolitan Stadium.
 
Cade Carr is currently leading Samford in hitting with a .329 (56-for-170) average with 11 doubles, seven home runs and a team-high 50 RBI. His 50 RBI currently rank seventh in the Southern Conference. Michael Gupton is hitting .327 (51-for-156) with eight doubles, nine home runs and 35 RBI. Jeffrey Ince is hitting .320 (56-for-175) with 14 doubles, nine home runs and 29 RBI.
 
Jake Souders has a .315 (57-for-181) average with 10 doubles, seven home runs and 35 RBI. Parker McDonald is hitting .305 (46-for-151) with 12 doubles, 11 home runs and 38 RBI. Jackson Harris has a .305 (51-for-167) with 12 doubles, four home runs and 34 RBI.
 
Troy enters this week with a mark of 34-14 overall and 16-8 in Sun Belt Conference play. The Trojans won two-of-three games at South Alabama over the weekend, and they will host Alabama Tuesday evening before coming to Birmingham to play Samford on Wednesday.
 
Troy has been led at the plate so far this season by Blake Cavill with a .329 (50-for-152) average with 10 doubles, nine home runs and 44 RBI. Steven Meier is hitting .317 (52-for-164) with 14 doubles, six home runs and 32 RBI.
