AUBURN, Ala. – The Samford soccer team traveled to the Auburn Soccer Complex and battled the Auburn Tigers to a 0-0 draw Sunday evening.
With the result, Samford is now 0-1-1 on the season. Auburn also has a mark of 0-1-1.
"This was an awesome game," Samford head coach
Todd Yelton said. "I felt like we left a little bit on the table, I felt like we created enough chances to get a result. But, down here on the Plains, on a Sunday night, with a big crowd, 0-0 isn't the worst thing in the world. We felt like maybe we could get a little more out of it than we did, but we'll take the point and head back to Birmingham."
The game was played evenly the entire night. Each team had 13 shots, including four shots on goal apiece. For Samford,
Hanna Rae Himes led the team with four shots, while
Abby Wooten and
Martha Bishop had two shots each.
Peyton Hull played the full 90 minutes in goal, saving four shots without allowing a goal.
For Auburn, Taylor Chism, Olivia Woodson and Dylan Driver had three shots each. Goalkeeper Ayana Yapo saved four shots, allowing no goals.
Samford will play its home opener on Thursday, Aug. 21, when the Bulldogs play host to South Alabama at 6 p.m. at Shauna Yelton Field.
