BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Samford volleyball team fell to Georgia in their season opener, 3-0 (18-25, 19-25, 20-25), Friday evening in the Pete Hanna Center.
The match opened with several points back and forth but ultimately the Bulldogs fell in the first set 25-18, then 25-19 in the second set and 25-20 in the third and final set.
Junior outside hitter,
Ally Cordes led the Bulldogs with a total of 16 kills and two aces, Redshirt junior
Kaleigh Meritt followed with 12 kills and one ace. In her first match as a Bulldog, Sophomore
Shea Bruntmyer had a total of 33 assists and one block.
For Georgia, Bianna Muoneke led with 18 kills and Estelle Haugen followed with eight kills.
Georgia will play tomorrow in the Pete Hanna Center against Troy at 4 p.m.
Samford will continue its season opening weekend on Sunday when the Bulldogs face Troy at 2 p.m. in the Pete Hanna Center.
