BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Samford volleyball team dropped a 3-1 (25-23, 12-25, 13-25, 14-25) decision against Auburn Friday evening in The Pete Hanna Center.
With the loss, Samford fell to 4-6 on the early season. Auburn improved its record to 7-2 with the win. This was the Bulldogs second match in the Alabama Challenge.
Samford was led in the loss by
Ally Cordes with 15 kills and 13 digs.
Shea Bruntmyer had 34 assists and
Kaleigh Meritt had 10 kills for the Bulldogs.
For Auburn, Lauren Dreves had 15 kills and seven digs.
The Bulldogs opened up strong, taking the first set. The set opened up with a kill from
Sophia Plasman, later in the set when it was tied , 22-22, a kill by
Greer Golden put the Bulldogs up 23-22 which provided them momentum to win the set, 25-23.
The Bulldogs fell behind early in the second set 1-4 , and couldn't gain the same momentum from set one. Samford went on to drop the second set and the final two.
Samford will play UAB next for their final match in the Alabama Challenge, hosted by The Bulldogs. The match is scheduled to start at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday and will be streamed on ESPN+.
