SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Samford men's golf team won the Carolina Cup, played Sunday and Monday at the Carolina Country Club (Par 72, 6,929 yards) and hosted by USC Upstate.
 
"I'm really proud of the guys," Samford head coach Al Del Greco said. "We kind of had a rough start in the first round, but they hung in there. We battled back in round two and hung on in round three. It was pouring rain for the last four or five holes, so I was really proud of the mental discipline our guys showed."
 
As a team, Samford finished with a three-round score of 20-over-par 884 (301-290-293) to finish first in the nine-team event. Radford and Tennessee Tech tied for second with identical scores of 888. This marked the first tournament win for Samford since winning the Big Blue Intercollegiate in the spring of 2024.
 
Individually, Samford was led by Jack Mikesell, finishing second in the 55-player field. Mikesell finished at two-under-par 214 (71-74-69). Gavin Isbell tied for eighth at five-over-par 221 (82-67-72).
 
"I was really proud of Jack," Del Greco said. "He was right there until the end. He hit some really good shots, but just couldn't quite get it done. But this was just a good team win for us. Hopefully that confidence will keep us going for the rest of the fall."
 
Wils Moore, playing as an individual and his score not counting towards the team total, tied for 13th with a score of 224 (70-73-81). Tiaan Hugo placed 22^nd in the event with a three-round score of 226 (75-77-74), while Mark Neeley finished 32^nd at 229 (78-73-78). Matthew Smith placed 43^rd with a final score of 233 (77-76-80).
 
Next up, Samford will compete in the Turtle Point Invitational, Oct. 13-14 in Killen, Ala.
