JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. — Samford women's basketball could not overcome a slow start and a dominant ETSU interior presence, falling 53-44 in Southern Conference action Friday afternoon at Brooks Gym.
The Bulldogs dropped their fourth consecutive game, moving to 8-15 overall and 1-5 in league play.
Samford trailed throughout, facing an uphill battle after managing just 14 points in the first half. After falling behind 36-22 at the end of the third quarter, Samford found its rhythm in the final period.
The Bulldogs nearly doubled their total output with 22 fourth-quarter points, sparked by efficient three-point shooting and aggressive play from the bench. Francie Morris led the way off the bench with 14 points on 5-of-9 shooting, including 4-of-7 from beyond the arc, while Sierra Godbolt added 11 points and a game-high five steals.
A late-game rally brought the Bulldogs within three points after a clutch three-pointer from Kaylee Yarbrough and two free throws by Godbolt, but the Buccaneers responded with a key layup to secure the win.
Samford's bench production was a bright spot, contributing 24 points compared to just two from ETSU's reserves.
Samford returns to action Sunday, Feb. 1, with a Southern Conference match up at Chattanooga. Tip-off is scheduled for 1 p.m. in Chattanooga, Tenn.
