Olivia Shaw Named SoCon Player of the Week

SPARTANBURG, S.C. - The Samford softball team finished off a 3-2 week at home after hosting the Samford Softball Tournament. They were propelled by Olivia Shaw who was named the Southern Conference Player of the Week this afternoon when the conference office released their weekly awards. 

Shaw broke out for the Bulldogs this week, leading the team and league in six categories, including batting average, on-base percentage and slugging percentage. On Feb. 10, Shaw had a double, a run scored and two RBIs in a 14-5 win over Alabama State. Three days later, the junior had two home runs and two walks in a 8-0 win over Lindenwood. In the second game that day against Belmont, Shaw finished with two hits, one being a double, and a walk versus Belmont. On Valentine's Day, the native of Hoschton, Georgia, logged a double and a walk during a 9-6 win against Lindenwood. In the final game of the weekend, Shaw went 2-3 with a double and an RBI in a 10-2 setback against North Alabama.

For the week, the junior went 8-for-14 at the plate with four doubles, two homers, and eight RBIs. Shaw was the SoCon Preseason Player of the Year and broke out on her home field after a slow start to her season on the opening weekend in Tallahassee.

The Bulldogs return to action this week with a game at Georgia on Wednesday before heading to Mississippi State for the Bulldog Invitational for four games on Friday and Saturday.
