GAME NOTES--SAMFORD AT GEORGIA (PDF)
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Samford University baseball team will travel to Athens, Ga., to take on the ninth-ranked Georgia Bulldogs in a three-game series this weekend. The teams are scheduled to play Friday at 2 p.m. (CT), Saturday at 1 p.m. (CT) and Sunday at 12 p.m. (CT). All three games can be seen live on SEC Network+.
"We are looking forward to the challenge of going on the road to face an outstanding Georgia baseball team," Samford head coach Tony David said. "There are all kinds of scheduling philosophies. We schedule the best of the best to attract players in recruiting and to help us improve through the season to be our absolute best when SoCon play starts. Outside of the power four there is no league stronger than ours from top to bottom."
Samford and Georgia have played just three previous times, all coming between 1998 and 2000. Georgia holds a 2-1 series lead.
Samford is scheduled to start right-handed pitchers
Mason Blasche,
Michael Fredette and
Andrew Marble on the mound this weekend.
"We are going to see some of the best collections of high velocity arms in the country," David said. "We played a great game against Alabama and came up a run short. Looking to put ourselves in position and finish. I have tremendous confidence in our backend guys."
Samford comes into the weekend with a record of 2-2. The Bulldogs opened the season by winning two-of-three games from Belmont last weekend and Samford dropped a 3-2 decision to Alabama Tuesday evening.
Samford has been led at the plate so far this season by
Jake Souders, hitting .462 (6-of-13).
Luke Boykin leads the team in both home runs with two and in RBI with eight.
Samford's Marble was named the Southern Conference Pitcher of the Week on Monday. Marble made his Samford debut in last Saturday's 10-1 win over Belmont. Marble pitched 5.1 innings, giving up no runs on one hit and striking out four batters to earn the win.
This weekend's games are a part of eight games on Samford's 2026 schedule against SEC opponents. The Bulldogs hosted Alabama on Tuesday night. This weekend, Samford will play a three-game series at Georgia, the Bulldogs will play at Alabama on April 7, will take on Auburn, Mar. 3 at Auburn and April 21 at the Hoover Met and host Mississippi State on April 14.
