Morris's Career Night Fuels Fourth-Quarter Rally Past Furman

GREENVILLE, S.C.- Samford women's basketball team erased a fourth-quarter deficit with a dominant final period, storming past Furman for a 68-59 road victory Thursday night at Timmons Arena.

This marks the Bulldogs fourth straight win, previously beating Mercer, Western Carolina and UNCG at home.

Freshman Francie Morris delivered an explosive performance, leading all scorers with a career-high 26 points on an efficient 9-of-12 shooting. Morris, who also set new career bests in field goals made and free throw attempts, was instrumental in the comeback.

After a tight first half that saw Samford take a 27-24 lead into the break, Furman responded in the third quarter to go ahead 42-39. The Bulldogs answered decisively in the final 10 minutes, outscoring the Paladins 29-17. A pivotal three-pointer from Briana Rivera with 8:44 remaining gave Samford a lead it would not relinquish, part of a fourth quarter where the team shot 64 percent from the field.

Rivera finished with 15 points, marking her 12th double-digit game of the season, hitting four three-pointers and playing a team-high 36 minutes. Senior Sierra Godbolt provided another major spark, contributing 13 points while going a perfect 5-for-5 from the free-throw line. The Bulldogs' bench conintues to propel the offense outscoring Furman's 14-5.

Samford's clutch performance extended to the free-throw, where the team shot 83 percent for the game. The Bulldogs also capitalized on defensive pressure, scoring 20 points off turnovers compared to just 10 for the Paladins.

Samford (12-16) will continue its road trip on Saturday, Feb. 21, when the team travels to Spartanburg, S.C., to face Wofford. Tip-off is scheduled for 1 p.m. The game will be streamed on ESPN+.
