BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Samford women's basketball team will host Southern Conference leader Chattanooga on Thursday, Feb. 26, at the Pete Hanna Center highlighted by Youth Day.
This is the second meeting between the programs this season. Chattanooga claimed a 61-40 win on Feb. 1 in Chattanooga, and the Bulldogs will look to flip the script at home in a pivotal late-season clash with SoCon Tournament seeding on the line. Samford enters at 12-16 overall and 6-7 in the league, coming off a hard-fought 52-44 road loss at Wofford. Prior to that setback, the Bulldogs had won four of five with key victories over Mercer and Furman.
Guard Briana Rivera has put together a historic season from long range, leading the entire nation in three-pointers made (98), three-point attempts (268), and threes per game (3.38). Her shooting will be central to the Bulldogs' offensive plan. Inside, forwards Emily Bowman (3rd in the SoCon at 1.45 blocks per game) and Carla Baguda (5th at 1.24 BPG) anchor Samford's rim protection—an area that will be tested against Chattanooga's front court.
Chattanooga arrives in Birmingham at 18-7 overall and 10-2 in SoCon play, sitting atop the conference standings. The Mocs have won two straight and three of their last five, including recent wins over Western Carolina (52-36) and UNCG (56-54). They are No. 186 in the NCAA NET Rankings and are receiving votes in the CollegeInsider.com Mid-Major Top 25 poll.
Guard Caia Elisaldez fuels the offense, ranking second in the SoCon in scoring (14.8 PPG) and first in assists (5.2 APG).
The game will be streamed on ESPN+ with tipoff schdeuled for 4 p.m. and can be followed via Live Stats.
