Samford Baseball Drops Game One To Bowling Green

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Samford University baseball team dropped game one of its series with Bowling Green, falling by a score of 7-1 Friday evening at Joe Lee Griffin Field.

With the loss, Samford fell to 3-6 on the season. Bowling Green improved its record to 2-6 with the win.

"Baseball is cruel sometimes," Samford head coach Tony David said. "We had base runners in every inning, usually more than one. We hit it well a few times right at them and, also hit into three double plays. Their guy did a great job with the bases loaded against the heart of our order late, which felt like the game. Mason (Blasche) really settled in and pitched well for us. We came here to win a series and we have to be ready to go early tomorrow."

Samford was led by Cade Carr, going 3-for-5 with an RBI. Jake Souders also went 3-for-5. Gus Gandy went 3-for-4 at the plate for the Bulldogs. Mason Blasche (0-2) pitched 6.0 innings, giving up two runs on five hits and striking out five batters to take the loss on the mound for the Bulldogs.

Bowling Green was led by Sam Seidel went 3-for-5 with a home run and two RBI. Vinny Salvione also homered for the Falcons. Jacob Turner (1-0) earned the win on the mound, tossing 5.0 inning and giving up no runs on eight hits.

Bowling Green scored two runs in the first inning and three more in the seventh inning to take a 5-0 lead. In the bottom of the seventh inning, Samford loaded the bases with no outs, but Bowling Green relief pitcher Ty Roder came in and struck out the next three batters to end the threat.

The Falcons added two runs in the top of the ninth inning to make the score 7-0. In the bottom of the ninth inning, Carr singled to drive in Souders to make the final score 7-1.
