GAME NOTES--SAMFORD VS. LITTLE ROCK (PDF)
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Samford University baseball team will play host to Little Rock in a series this weekend. The teams are scheduled to play Friday at 4 p.m., Saturday at 2 p.m. and Sunday at 1 p.m. All three games can be seen live on ESPN+ and live stats will also be available.
Samford is scheduled to start right-handed pitcher
Joseph Lee (0-0, 5.40 ERA) on Friday, right-hander
Mason Blasche (0-3, 6.75 ERA) on Saturday and right-hander
Andrew Marble (1-1, 6.75 ERA) in Sunday's game.
Little Rock has named right-handed pitcher Brannon Westmoreland (2-0, 1.52 ERA) as its starter on Friday, left-handed pitcher Brigden Parker (0-2, 5.29 ERA) as Saturday's starter and right-hander Zach Busick (2-1, 3.50 ERA) as its starter in Sunday's series finale.
Samford and Little Rock have played eight times in baseball, with Samford holding a 5-3 series lead. All the previous meetings came in 1991, with four games coming in Little Rock and four coming at Samford.
Samford comes into the week with a record of 6-9. The Bulldogs earned a 6-4 win over Alabama A&M Tuesday evening at Joe Lee Griffin Field. The Bulldogs leads the Southern Conference and rank third in the nation in fielding percentage at .990.
Samford has been led at the plate so far this season by
Jake Souders, hitting .429 (24-of-56) with two home runs and seven RBI.
Luke Boykin leads the team in both home runs with five and in RBI with 17.
Gus Gandy and
Cade Carr are both hitting .333 entering this week. Gandy has two home runs and five RBI, while Carr has two home runs and 13 RBI.
Little Rock enters the weekend with a record of 8-8. The Trojans are coming off a 12-5 loss to Arkansas State Tuesday evening.
Little Rock has been led at the plate by Kade Smith, batting .392 (20-of-51) with four doubles, two home runs and 11 RBI. Easton Rowe is hitting .361 (13-of-36) with three doubles, two home runs and seven RBI. Cade Martin has a.345 (19-of-55) average with five doubles, two home runs and 10 RBI. Angel Cano leads the team in home runs with four.
