GAME NOTES--SAMFORD AT JAX STATE (PDF)
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Samford University baseball team will play at Jacksonville State Tuesday at 3 p.m. at Rudy Abbott Field at Jim Case Stadium. The game can be seen live on ESPN+.
Samford is scheduled to start right-handed pitcher
Noah Berry on the mound Tuesday night. Berry enters the game with a record of 1-1 and an ERA of 2.08.
Samford and Jacksonville State have played 92 previous times, with JSU holding a 56-36 series lead. Last season, the teams met twice, with JSU winning both games. Prior to last season's games, Samford had won four games in a row in the series.
Samford comes into the week with a record of 7-11. The Bulldogs dropped two-of-three games to Little Rock over the weekend. Samford won game one of the series, 5-4, but dropped the last two games, 5-1 and 12-2.
Samford has been led at the plate so far this season by
Jake Souders, hitting .415 (27-of-65) with two home runs and eight RBI.
Luke Boykin leads the team in both home runs with five and in RBI with 17.
Gus Gandy is hitting .322 (19-for-59) with three doubles, two home runs and five RBI.
Cade Carr has a .310 (18-of-58) average with three doubles, two home runs and 15 RBI.
Jacksonville State enters Tuesday evening's game with a record of 17-3 overall and 3-0 in Conference USA. The Gamecocks swept a series at Sam Houston over the weekend, winning the games by scores of 3-1, 18-7 and 4-3.
The Gamecocks have been led at the plate so far this season by Jaxon Pate, hitting .389 (21-for-54) with five doubles and 11 RBI. Grayson Ashe leads Jacksonville State in home runs with four and in RBI with 24.
