BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Samford softball team returns home as they continue Southern Conference play this weekend against Chattanooga. Two teams who were picked to finish atop the league in the preseason, enter with Samford carrying a 12-21 record while the Mocs sit at 12-17-1. The series is set to begin with a doubleheader tomorrow at 1 and 3:30 p.m.
Samford and Chattanooga are meeting for the 75th time in series history. Samford is 24-50 all-time against the Mocs, as the Dogs went 0-4 last year against Chattanooga. The Bulldogs are coming off a three straight wins after winning their opening Southern Conference series at Mercer and a midweek win at Alabama State. After an eight-game losing streak, the Bulldogs have won three games in a row, where they outscored their opponents 32-2.
Both teams were picked to finish second in the Preseason Poll. The Mocs dropped two of three against Wofford to start their SoCon schedule. The Dogs have missed their ace Makinley Turner who has been out with injury since late February, as the team has a 5.35 earned run average. Preseason Player of the Year, Olivia Shaw, leads the team with a .326 average, 31 hits, and 17 extra-base hits.  Katie Campbell leads the Dogs with 8 homers and carries a team-high 1.065 OPS. Joi Hubbard has been swinging a hot bat, with eight hits in her past three games at the top of the Bulldog lineup.
All three games will be streamed on ESPN+ here and live stat links can be followed here.
