BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Samford University baseball team evened its series with Presbyterian by earning a 7-4 win in game two of the series Saturday afternoon at Joe Lee Griffin Field.
With the win, Samford improved its record to 11-14 on the season. Presbyterian fell to 5-23 with the loss.
Mason Blasche (1-5) pitched 6.0 innings, allowing just one unearned run on three hits and striking out five batters to earn the win on the mound for Samford.

Trey Sanders also saw time on the mound for the Bulldogs.
"As poorly as we played yesterday, I thought we played that well today," Samford head coach Tony David said. "It was a really clean game defensively. Mason did a great job early of navigating that trouble and got out of it only giving up the one run. And then he was what he has been for us for a while now, he was dominant."
For Samford at the plate,
Jake Souders went 2-for-4 with a home run and one RBI.
Luke Boykin and
Parker McDonald also had two hits each for Samford.
Gus Gandy doubled and drove in three runs in a 1-for-4 performance.
For Presbyterian, Emory Guilford went 3-for-4 with a triple and an RBI. Caden Mason and Nick Smith drove in a run each for the Blue Hose. Christian Charalambous (1-4) pitched 4.1 innings, giving up six runs on nine hits to take the loss on the mound for Presbyterian.
Presbyterian took the early lead with one run in the top of the first inning. In the bottom of the first inning, Samford plated three runs to take the lead for good. With two outs in the inning, Souders hit a solo home run to left field to knot the score at 1-1. Later in the inning, Gandy doubled to right-center field to drive in Boykin and
Trey Higgins for a 3-1 Samford lead.
Samford added three runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to push the lead to 6-1. Higgins singled to drive in two runs and Gandy added an RBI single as Samford pushed its lead to five runs.
Presbyterian plated a run in the top of the seventh inning to cut the lead to 6-2. In the bottom of the eighth, McDonald doubled to drive in a run to make the score 7-2. The Blue Hose added two final runs in the top of the ninth inning to make the final score 7-4.
