"It really starts with Joe Lee," Samford head coach Tony David said. "Just another really good performance. The story of the day was two-out hits, we just had a bunch of them. Samford jumped on top first with two runs in the top of the second inning. McDonald and Souders drove in a run each as Samford grabbed a 2-0 lead. UNCG came back with three runs in the bottom of the second to take a 3-2 lead.

Samford took the lead for good in the top of the fifth inning when Gandy singled to drive in two runs and give the Bulldogs a 4-3 lead. In the seventh inning, McDonald drove in a run with a single to push the lead to 5-3. In the eighth inning, Higgins hit a solo home run to make the score 6-3.

The Spartans came back with two runs in the eighth inning on a home run by Budzik to cut the lead to 6-5. Samford took control of the game with five runs in the top of the ninth inning. Carr drove in two runs with a single and Souders scored on the play on an error. Luke Boykin then tripled to drive in two runs to make the final score 11-5.
