BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Samford softball team returns to play this weekend with a Southern Conference series at Furman. The Bulldogs and the Paladins will play two games on Saturday, beginning at noon, followed by one game on Sunday. Samford enters in second place in the SoCon with an 8-4 record while Furman enters tied for seventh at 3-9.
The Bulldogs and Paladins have met 68 times in history, with the Dogs leading the series 35-33 all-time. Samford is coming off a historic victory on Tuesday night as they defeated No. 3 Alabama at home 3-2.
Sara Bond and
Makinley Turner combined to limit the Crimson Tide bats to just six hits, while
Katie Campbell delivered the big blow offensively as she brought home two with a double down the left field line in the fifth inning.
The Samford bats have come to life in conference play, as they are second in the SoCon in runs and lead in hits and average.
Olivia Shaw is hitting over .400 in conference play while
Joi Hubbard has been setting the table in the leadoff spot, getting on base at a 57 percent clip. Turner has been dominant in her last three outings of the season, earning SoCon Pitcher of the Week honors.
