BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Samford softball team hits the road in Southern Conference play as it faces Wofford for a three-game set. The series begins with two games on Friday afternoon, at 12 and 2 p.m., followed by one game Saturday at 11 a.m. The Bulldogs enter with a 15-22 record and are 5-1 in SoCon play, while Wofford is 24-8 and 3-3 in conference play.
The Bulldogs and the Terriers meet for the sixth time, with Samford leading the all-time series 4-1. The Dogs have been off to a hot start in conference play and are playing some of their best ball of the season as they sit in second place in the league standings. Samford had won six games in a row before falling at UAB on Tuesday.
The Bulldogs had both the SoCon Player and Pitcher of the Week as
Katie Campbell and
Reese Hickey claimed the honors for the Bulldogs. Campbell hit four homeruns in the series against Chattanooga and now is one off the conference lead while Hickey has thrown 15 consecutive scoreless innings and had a 2-0 week. Preseason Player of the Year,
Olivia Shaw has been hot at the plate, leading the team with a .364 average, 40 hits, and 21 extra-base hits. The Dogs have the best offense in SoCon play, leading the league in average and runs in conference games.
