JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. - The Samford softball team is back in Southern Conference play as they travel to face ETSU. The games originally scheduled for Saturday and Sunday have now been moved to a single game on Thursday and a doubleheader on Friday. The Bulldogs ride a six-game winning streak into play and have a 23-26 overall record and sit in second place in the SoCon at 11-4.
The Bulldogs are coming off wins against No. 3 Alabama, a series sweep of Furman, and a win at West Georgia last night. After outscoring Alabama 3-2, the bats have caught fire, scoring 53 runs in the last four games.
Katie Campbell and
Brandy Phillips have each hit three homers in the past two games, Campbell setting the new Samford single-season mark with 16 so far this year.
Olivia Shaw has raised her average to .380 after going 9-for-13 in her last four games, while
Addison Smith and
Ella Nelson have been swinging a good bat, providing depth to the lineup.
Makinley Turner is fully back from her mid-season injury, winning back-to-back SoCon Pitcher of the Week honors after not allowing a run in her last four outings. Phillips,
Sara Bond, and
Reese Hickey have all been strong options for head coach Megan Curry to turn to behind Turner. In conference play, the Bulldogs lead the league in ERA as a staff and runs scored as an offense.
First pitch against ETSU on Thursday is set for 1 p.m. followed by two games on Friday starting at noon. Games will not be streamed but live stats can be followed
