Samford Baseball To Host In-State Rival Jacksonville State Tuesday Evening

BIRMINGHAM, Ala.
 – The Samford baseball team will play host to in-state rival Jacksonville State Tuesday evening at 6 p.m. at Joe Lee Griffin Field. The game can be seen live on ESPN+ and live stats will also be available.
 
Samford and Jacksonville State have met 93 previous times, with JSU holding a 56-37 series lead. The teams met earlier this season in Jacksonville, with Samford earning a 7-6 win over the Gamecocks. The programs were co-members of the Atlantic Sun from 1996 to 2003 and the Ohio Valley Conference from 2004 to 2008.
 
Samford comes into Tuesday night's game with a record of 23-19 overall and 8-4 in SoCon play. The Bulldogs swept a three-game series from USC Upstate over the weekend and fell to sixth-ranked Auburn last Tuesday evening.
 
Samford is scheduled to start right-handed pitcher Michael Fredette in Tuesday night's game. Fredette enters the game with a record of 0-2 and an ERA of 14.54.
 
Samford has been led at the plate so far this season by Jake Souders, hitting .391 (63-of-161) with 10 home runs and 39 RBI. Luke Boykin leads the team in home runs with 12 and in RBI with 42. Gus Gandy is hitting .336 (48-of-143) with 10 doubles, three home runs and 20 RBI. Cade Carr is hitting .331 (51-of-154) with seven doubles, 10 home runs and 37 RBI. Pierce Dutton has a .300 (24-of-80) average, while Jeffrey Ince is hitting .296 (37-of-125).
 
Jacksonville State enters Tuesday night's game with a record of 36-9 overall and 18-3 in Conference USA play. Last weekend, the Gamecocks won two-of-three games from New Mexico State.
 
Jacksonville State has listed right-handed pitcher Ryan Geraghty as its starting pitcher. Geraghty has a record of 1-1 and an ERA of 6.20.
 
The Gamecocks have been led at the plate by Jaxon Pate, hitting .373 (57-of-153) with 12 doubles and 22 RBI. Grayson Ashe and Caleb Johnson share the team lead in home runs with seven each. Ashe leads the team in RBI with 51 so far season.
