GAME NOTES--SAMFORD VS. WOFFORD (PDF)
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Samford baseball team will wrap up its regular season with a three-game Southern Conference series against Wofford at Joe Lee Griffin Field. The teams are scheduled to play Thursday at 4 p.m., Friday at 4 p.m. and Saturday at 1 p.m.
Samford and Wofford have met 58 previous times, with Samford holding a 32-26 series lead. Last season, the teams played four times, with Samford winning all four games. The Bulldogs swept the regular-season series at Wofford and then Samford earned a 12-7 win in the SoCon Tournament.
Samford comes into the weekend with a record of 26-23 overall and 10-8 in SoCon play. The Bulldogs dropped two-of-three games at The Citadel over the weekend. Entering the last weekend of the season, Samford is tied with ETSU for fourth place in the SoCon standings, just one game behind Wofford, so this weekend's series will be big for seeding in next week's SoCon Tournament.
Samford is scheduled to start right-handed pitcher
Joseph Lee (3-2, 4.67 ERA) in game one, right-handed pitcher
Noah Berry (5-1, 2.51 ERA) in game two and right-hander
Mason Blasche (3-7, 5.94 ERA) in game three.
Samford has been led at the plate so far this season by
Jake Souders, hitting .360 (68-of-189) with 11 home runs and 41 RBI.
Luke Boykin leads the team in home runs with 17 and in RBI with 50.
Cade Carr is hitting .344 (63-of-183) with seven doubles, 10 home runs and 38 RBI.
Gus Gandy is hitting .321 (53-of-165) with 10 doubles, three home runs and 23 RBI.
Luke Boykin is hitting .299 (53-of-177) so far this season.
Wofford enters the weekend with a record of 33-18 overall and 11-7 in Southern Conference play. The Terriers won two-of-three games over ETSU last weekend. Wofford won the first two games, 7-6 and 6-5, before falling in the series finale, 9-5.
Wofford has been led at the plate by Logan Tribble, batting .381 (69-of-181) with 15 doubles, one home run and 40 RBI. Ben Timblin leads the team in home runs with 13 and in RBI with 56.
