SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Samford head coach
Rod Tiffin and three Bulldog student-athletes were honored when the Southern Conference released its postseason specialty awards for the outdoor season Friday afternoon.
Tiffin was named the Men's Outdoor Coach of the Year,
Cole Grande was named the Most Outstanding Male Track Performer,
JT Shaw earned Most Outstanding Female Field Performer honors and
Chase Webb was named the Male Freshman of the Year.
Tiffin led the Samford men's outdoor track and field team to a sixth-straight SoCon title earlier this week. The Bulldog men earned 238.5 points, ahead of second-place Western Carolina with 180.5 and third-place Furman with 109 points.
At the SoCon Championships, Grande won the men's 400 meters and he was a member of the 4x100-meter relay winning team and the 4x400-meter relay winning team. He also finished second in the men's 200 meters.
Shaw won the women's shot put at the SoCon Outdoor Championships. She also finished second in both the women's discus and women's hammer throw.
Webb was a part of the SoCon-winning men's 4x100-meter relay team. He also had a second-place finish in the men's 100 meter run and a fourth-place finish in the men's 200-meter run.
