SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Samford's
Zephaniah Carico-McLennan,
Kyle Kaufelds,
Jess Edwards and
Kiera-Lee Abrahams have been selected as this week's Southern Conference Outdoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week, the conference office announced Wednesday.
The Bulldogs competed at the 2026 Maroon and White Tune‑Up hosted by Mississippi State, their final meet before the conference championships.
Carico‑McLennan posted a time of 1:46.59 in the men's 800m, placing fourth overall and recording the top mark in the SoCon this season.
Kaufelds, the SoCon's regular‑season javelin leader, won the men's javelin with a throw of 62.97m. Edwards ran a league‑leading 2:03.53 in the women's 800m, finishing second by just 0.12 seconds.
Abrahams tied the conference lead in the women's long jump with a winning mark of 6.09m.
The Southern Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships will be held next in Cullowhee, North Carolina, beginning Monday, May 11.
