GAME NOTES--SAMFORD AT THE CITADEL (PDF)
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Samford baseball team will travel to Charleston, S.C., for a three-game Southern Conference series at The Citadel this weekend. Due to expected inclement weather, the weekend schedule has changed, and the teams are now scheduled to play a doubleheader Friday at 11 a.m. (CT) and 5 p.m. (CT) and a single game Saturday at 5 p.m. (CT).
Samford and The Citadel have met 45 previous times, with Samford holding a 32-13 series lead. Last season, Samford won two of the three games played at Joe Lee Griffin Field. Samford took the first game, 9-8, The Citadel won the second game, 4-3 and Samford took game three by a score of 8-5.
Samford comes into the weekend with a record of 25-21 overall and 9-6 in SoCon play. The Bulldogs picked up an 8-2 win at North Alabama Tuesday night.
Samford is scheduled to start right-handed pitcher
Joseph Lee (3-1, 4.21 ERA) in game one, right-handed pitcher
Mason Blasche (3-6, 5.83 ERA) in game two and right-hander
Noah Berry (5-1, 2.28 ERA) in game three.
Samford has been led at the plate so far this season by
Jake Souders, hitting .376 (67-of-178) with 11 home runs and 41 RBI.
Luke Boykin leads the team in home runs with 14 and in RBI with 46.
Cade Carr is hitting .333 (57-of-171) with seven doubles, 10 home runs and 37 RBI.
Gus Gandy is hitting .318 (50-of-157) with 10 doubles, three home runs and 22 RBI.
Luke Boykin is hitting .303 (50-of-165) so far this season.
The Citadel enters the weekend with a record of 25-22 overall and 6-9 in Southern Conference play. The Citadel swept three games from Presbyterian last weekend.
The Citadel has listed left-handed pitcher Will Holmes (4-4, 4.76 ERA), right-hander Andrew Buffkin (4-2, 2.94 ERA) and righty Trip Brown (2-3, 3.64 ERA) as its starting pitchers.
The Citadel has been led at the plate so far this season by Christian Stratis, hitting .330 (38-of-115) with seven doubles, two triples, two home runs and 25 RBI. Zach Hunt leads the team in home runs with eight and in RBI with 33.
