AUBURN, Ala. – The Samford volleyball team closed the Alabama Showdown on Friday evening, falling to Auburn 3-1 (25-18, 28-26, 20-25, 25-20) inside of Neville Arena.

Samford falls to 2-7 on the season, while Auburn improves to 9-2.

Auburn took the first two sets 25-18 and 28-26, before Samford earned a 25-20 win in the third set.

Junior outside hitter Brianna Hamilton and senior outside hitter Ally Cordes led the way for the Bulldogs, each posting double-doubles. Hamilton recorded 13 kills and ten digs, while recording a .400 hitting percentage. Cordes tallied 12 kills and 15 digs. Freshman middle blocker Hazel Slusher recorded nine total blocks, while redshirt freshman setter Alison Ohlinger tallied 38 assists. Samford finished with a .148 hitting percentage on 149 total attempts.

Greer Chambless led the way for the Tigers with 15 kills on a .353 hitting percentage. Emily Keiran tallied 18 digs. Auburn finished with a .201 hitting percentage on 154 total attempts.

Samford is back in action on Sunday, Sept. 20, as the Bulldogs host UAB. First serve is set for 4 p.m. CST in the Pete Hanna Center.
