Bulldogs Earn 3-1 Victory in the Battle of Birmingham

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Samford volleyball team earned its third win of the 2026 season, taking down UAB 3-1 (18-25, 25-19, 25-20, 25-23) on Sunday evening at the Pete Hanna Center.

With the win, Samford improves to 3-7 on the season, while UAB falls to 6-6.

Samford opened the match with a 25-18 loss in set one, before the Bulldogs took the next three sets, 25-19, 25-20 and 25-23. Samford sealed the deal in four sets.

Senior outside hitter Ally Cordes led the way for Samford, with 13 kills and a hitting percentage of .244. Freshman outside hitter Maggie Kalisz was second on the team with 11 kills and a hitting percentage of .500. Junior outside hitter Brianna Hamilton posted another double double with 10 kills and 12 digs with a hitting percentage of .188.

Freshman setter Alison Ohlinger had a great night, totaling 35 assists, 8 digs and one service ace. Freshman middle blocker Hazel Slusher recorded six blocks. Samford finished the match with a .203 hitting percentage on 133 attempts.

For UAB, Kennedy Vaughn led the way with 14 kills and 11 digs, while Mia Reese added 14 kills on a .190 hitting percentage. The Blazers finished with a .197 hitting percentage on 137 attempts.

The Bulldogs start conference play next week at home against ETSU on Thursday Sept. 24. First serve is set for 6:30 p.m. in the Pete Hanna Center.
