Mike Melton

Mike Melton is in his second season as the volunteer assistant coach for the soccer program at Samford University. The 2011 graduate of the University of Mississippi has played a key role in the Bulldogs’ coaching staff where he assists in training, coordinates team activities and handles the travel responsibilities.
 
Melton joined Samford’s staff in August of 2013 after spending the previous two seasons at his alma mater, Ole Miss. During his time in Oxford, Miss., Melton served as the program’s graduate assistant and was the co-director of the Ole Miss Soccer Camp. He also assisted with the team’s field instruction and created the scouting reports.
 
While earning his Masters of Art in recreation administration at the University of Mississippi, Melton also worked on staff at the U.S. Olympic Developmental team in Region III. There, he evaluated and participated in selecting the top players in the region. From 2011-13, Melton also served as the varsity men’s coach at Oxford High School. In his last season at the helm, he directed OHS to the Mississippi state championship title.
 
Melton also spent two years as the student assistant women’s coach at Ole Miss and was simultaneously the head men’s coach at Marshall Academy High School.
 
Melton earned his Bachelor in Applied Sciences from the University of Mississippi in 2011 and majored in park in recreation management. In 2013, he received his Masters of Art in recreation administration from the University of Mississippi. Melton garners a wealth of experience in soccer coaching and holds a USSF National “B” license.
