Lindsay Shondell

  • Title
    Assistant Coach
Lindsey Shondell is in the midst of her first season as an assistant coach at Samford University. She was named to the position by Head Coach Michelle Durban on May 1, 2007. "Lindsay is extremely passionate about the game of volleyball and has a great work ethic," said Durban. "She is very well connected in the volleyball community due to her family pedigree and we look for her to make an immediate impact on the recruiting trail and our program." Shondell joined the Bulldogs after assisting Head Coach Mike Lingenfelter at the 18-Elite Asics Munciana Volleyball Club in Muncie, Ind. From 1999-2002, she worked as court coach under Dr. Don Shondell in the 12-and-under training program at the same club. The West Lafayette native also served as head coach for the 13-Elite team out of the Raider Volleyball Club in West Lafayette, Ind., in 2006, as well as the 12-Elite team from the same club in 2004 and 2005. Shondell has had much experience volunteering and coaching in a camp setting, in addition to her club coaching experience. As a player at Purdue University, she assisted in the Purdue Women's Volleyball camps from 2003-05 and also in the Bearcat Volleyball Camp at Muncie Central High School from 1999-2001. She volunteered at the Boys and Girls Club in Fullerton, Calif., from 2002-03 and two years later volunteered for the "Special Friends" program at Klondike Elementary School in West Lafayette, Ind. The Purdue graduate's volleyball career started out when she was a young girl in Muncie, Ind., in 1990. She was a setter for the Asics Munciana Volleyball Club from 1999-2002, and in her time with Asics she helped her team to several national appearances, including a national championship in 1994, a national runner-up in 1995, and third-place finishes in 1996, 1997, 1998 and 2000. Shondell went on to become a setter for Muncie Central High School from 1998-2001. While she was a Bearcat, she was a part of the 1998 and 1999 state championship teams and was named all-conference and first team all-state in 2000 and 2001. In those same years, she was also a member of the Indiana All-Star team. After graduation, Shondell spent a year at California State-Fullerton as a setter before transferring to Purdue in 2003. While at Purdue, Shondell and the Boilermakers made three consecutive appearances in the NCAA Tournament (2004-2006), while advancing to the second round in 2004 and competing in the Sweet Sixteen in 2005 and 2006.
