Shanna Cook

  • Title
    Assistant Coach
Shanna Cook begins her second season as an assistant women's basketball coach at Samford, and her 10th season in coaching overall.

"I think with the addition of Shanna Cook to our coaching staff, we really have a well-rounded and complete staff," Morris said. "She brings a wealth of experience, recruiting-wise, to our program, and she is exactly what we were looking for. She will be a tremendous asset to our program, Samford University and the community."

Prior to coming to Samford, Cook had been an assistant coach at her alma mater, the University of New Orleans, since 1996. At UNO, she was involved in recruiting, scouting, film analysis, on-floor coaching, scheduling, budgeting and team travel. She was also the strength and conditioning coach for women's basketball for three years. Additionally, she directed the program's summer camps during 1998-2004.

As a player at UNO, Cook was a four-year starter and three-time captain. She was the NCAA leader in assists for the 1993-94 season. She holds school records for three-point field goals made in a game, season and career. She also competed in the 1995 NCAA Women's Three-Point Shooting Championship at the Final Four in Seattle.

Cook earned her degree in sports management from UNO in 1996. She received her master's of education degree from UNO in May 2000.
