Football Completes School Visits At Shades Cahaba

Nov. 16, 2010

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Samford football completed its month-long school visits by visiting Shades Cahaba Elementary on Monday. The football team has been promoting Education Day and the importance of reading, which will be held at this Saturday's game versus The Citadel.

Overall, safety Alvin Hines II, defensive end Erik Peterson, and offensive lineman Jacob Kirschenbaum read to 14 kindergarten, first grade and third grade classes at Shades Cahaba Elementary in Homewood.

Hines, Peterson and Kirschenbaum read a variety of books, including Thanksgiving books, with the children and then explained the important role a good education plays in life after school. The Samford players presented students at the schools with a "Bulldog Buddies" bookmark.

Samford football players visited schools in the Birmingham area leading up to Education Day. They visited Liberty Park Elementary, Vestavia Central Elementary, Vestavia East Elementary, Cahaba Heights Elementary, Hall Kent Elementary and Edgewood Elementary.

Samford football will be hosting Education Day on Saturday, Nov. 20 for the Bulldogs' game against The Citadel. All kids, who bring their bookmark, will be admitted to the football game for free with a paid adult.

All kids in attendance can enter to win a free flat-screen television to be given away at the game. Also, the school who brings the most children to the game will receive a donation from the Samford Athletics Department to the winning school's library.
