BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Members of the Samford baseball team participated in November Reading Month at Hillview Elementary School, Nov. 12-16.
"Hillview Elementary School greatly appreciates the Samford Athletic department and Mark Donham and Zeth Stone, in particular, for their willingness to participate in our November Reading Month 'Mystery Reader' program,” Lindsey Bishop, Hillview's Library Media Specialist said. “It was a wonderful opportunity for our students to be introduced to great role models as well as to be encouraged to continue reading and working hard at school.”
The Bulldog baseball players who participated in the event spent time reading to and visiting with students at Hillview.
“So many children look up to athletes, and it was great for our students to see young men they look up to taking the time to read to them and encourage them,” Bishop said. “I believe Laura Bush said it best when she said, 'A love of books, of holding a book, turning its pages, looking at its pictures, and living its fascinating stories goes hand-in-hand with a love of learning.' Thank you for encouraging our students to love reading and to love learning."
